ALDO, a global leader in fashion footwear and accessories, generates 70% of its sales in physical stores. However, despite this significant in-store presence, ALDO lacked effective methods to identify, track or engage these shoppers beyond checkout. 

While online retail has embraced digital touchpoints for seamless personalisation and engagement, ALDO's in-store experience remained disconnected, leaving valuable shopper insights untapped.

Outdated tech equals invisible customers 

ALDO’s in-store customer data capture relied on two methods: store associates manually collecting emails at checkout to generate ‘PDF style’ e-receipts, or customers opting into a ‘Welcome’ journey which was disconnected from POS, leaving ALDO without any visibility into what customers bought, when, or how. This rendered the data practically useless for personalising the post-purchase experience. 

There was no seamless way to collect & track marketing permissions, leading to inconsistencies, missed opportunities, and a customer experience that fell flat after checkout. This meant that while a few hundred new customers were being acquired each month, their purchase history remained a mystery, making post-purchase personalisation impossible. 

ALDO was missing a huge opportunity to drive loyalty. To truly optimise the in-store experience, they needed a tech-driven solution that captured and connected data effortlessly, one that enabled seamless loyalty acquisition without disrupting the checkout flow or adding extra steps for staff.

The implementation was just an indication of how seamless the customer experience would be, taking only 25 minutes given Slip’s compatibility with Sitoo (POS) and Klaviyo (CRM). This wasn’t just a technology shift, this was a behavioral shift. The Slip team visited the stores to train the staff, securing buy-in and setting KPI’s, ensuring the new process was fully adopted across the stores.

Gone are the days of relying on staff to ask for email addresses at checkout, introducing friction, human error, and missed opportunities. With Slip powering 50% of all in-store transactions, customer data is now captured in real-time and instantly integrated into ALDO’s CRM, without slowing down the checkout process. 

The results speak for themselves. Loyalty sign-ups skyrocketed, growing more than twentyfold since Slip was introduced. On top of that, 92% of digital receipts sent included a marketing opt-in, giving ALDO a high-intent, direct channel to engage customers well beyond the store.
